Concerns regarding rule clarifications, conduct during games, varsity players and relay game

25 January 2010

Good evening everyone!

First, We would like to apologize for the misunderstanding of the rule regarding the required minimum number of players per team per game.

This is taken from the Rule Book (Volleyball section):
“Each course is required a minimum of three (3) women players playing at a time (except for MAC which is required only two (2) women players).”

The implementation of this specific rule may have caused a lot of confusion so please let us clarify this.  The following explanation of this rule applies to all games. All sample situations are for illustration purposes only.

We gave MAC special considerations regarding the required minimum number of (women) players because of the number of students in their course.  This allowance for MAC however, should also be in consideration for the other courses.

All other courses (MGT/H, LM, COMTECH and ME) will be required a certain minimum number of (women) players when they play against each other.  However, to be fair, when any of these courses play against MAC, the other courses will have the option to follow the regulations for MAC.

Example:  When MGT/H, LM, COMTECH or ME plays against MGT/H, LM, COMTECH or ME in a Volleyball game, both teams will be required a minimum number of 3 women players.  However, when any of MGT/H, LM, COMTECH or ME will play against MAC, the MGT/H, LM, COMTECH or ME team will be allowed to follow the required minimum number of 2 women players rule.

Second, to all the captains: Please remind and warn your players and team members to observe proper behavior during the games.  Any inappropriate conduct unbecoming of a player or a student will result in appropriate sanctions for the affiliated team.

Third, let us remind you, especially the captains, that NO VARSITY PLAYER (for the current school year; team A or team B) can play for the same sport they are competing for as a varsity athlete.  Any violation of this rule will lead to forfeiture of the game.

Lastly, with regard to the Relay game this afternoon, please allow the SOM Games 2010 organizing committee some time to discuss what happened.  We will get back to you as soon as possible.

For clarifications and other concerns, please do ask us immediately.

Thank you very much!
